Description

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Spread melted butter evenly over the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle brown sugar on top.
  3. Arrange apple slices in a single layer over the sugar.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. In another bowl, beat granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  6. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the egg mixture.
  7. Pour batter over apples and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.

  • Let cake cool slightly before flipping.
