Description

The Stuffed Seafood Bread Bowl is a gourmet twist on comfort food, featuring tender shrimp, succulent crab meat, and melty cheese housed in a rustic sourdough container. This recipe transforms everyday ingredients into a showstopping meal that’s surprisingly simple to create.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large sourdough bread bowl (810 inches in diameter)
  • 1/2 lb cooked shrimp, chopped
  • 1/2 lb lump crab meat
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread Bowl:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Cut off the top quarter of the sourdough bread bowl and hollow out the interior, leaving a 1-inch border.
    • Lightly toast the empty bread bowl for 5 minutes.
  2. Create the Seafood Mixture:

    • Blend softened cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth.
    • Stir in minced garlic, Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika, and lemon juice.
  3. Add the Seafood Components:

    • Gently fold in chopped shrimp, lump crab meat, and green onions.
  4. Assemble and Bake:

    • Transfer half of the seafood mixture into the bread bowl, sprinkle with 1/3 cup of mozzarella cheese, add the remaining mixture, and top with the rest of the cheese.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.

Notes

  • Bread Selection: Use a day-old sourdough with a firm crust.
  • Moisture Management: Pat seafood dry before mixing.
  • Temperature Timing: Allow the bread bowl to stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before baking.
  • Overfilling: Leave at least 1/2 inch of space at the top to prevent overflow.
  • Cheese Layering: Layer the cheese for optimal creaminess.
