Description

Hashweh is a flavorful Middle Eastern dish made with spiced ground meat and rice. Cooked cucumbers offer a unique side dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cucumbers, sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook until soft.
  3. Add ground meat and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in cinnamon, allspice, salt, and pepper.
  5. Add rice and 2 cups water, bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  7. For cucumbers, melt butter in a pan.
  8. Add garlic and sliced cucumbers.
  9. Cook until cucumbers are tender.
  10. Serve hashweh with cooked cucumbers.

Notes

  • Use lean ground meat for less fat.
  • Rinse rice before cooking for better texture.
  • Adjust spices to your taste.
